Objective 4; Workshop Discussion (30th May 2012)

Objective 4; To discuss the development plan of BIM training program

Group A;

-    Focus on awareness of the advantages of using BIM for FM amongst all the key stakeholders e.g. clients, developers, contractors, engineers, local authority staff.
-       BIM should be structured into the syllabus of the Engineering, Technology, Architectural and Built Environment fields of study.
-      A BIM training programme at undergraduate level should be complemented by the BIM service providers.
-       Development Plan specifically for BIM Operators, BIM Administrator, BIM Manager and BIM Draughtsman

Group B;

  • JKR
    • dedicated unit that focus on BIM
    • 2 officers from each discipline (2 persons – architect/engineer/etc)
    • A team is created to be champion in BIM.
  • Responsibility
    • Main committee will be responsible in the task
    • Sub-committee (branches)
    • Under sub-committee ; produces the model (3D) created by architect/engineer – including supporting software (design stage already)
    • The main committee will present the proposal of a model at TOP management before construction phase.
  •  Planning training
    • Current issue
      • lack of coordination, awareness among the discipline
      • BIM coordinator can help to solve the problems.
    • AutoDesk
      •  2x training/ month
      • PAM vision (30%  of architect registered with PAM must be able use BIM in 2015)
    • Skill
      • Currently low skill (staff)
      • Lack of information & data
      • Lack of standardized cost data
      • Expensive cost (ex ; AutoCAD RM20k, Revit RM20k )
        • CostX (QS software) – 3D RM18k/ per licence & 2D RM12K / per licence
    • Budget allocation - JKR
      • 7 offices x 5 discipline = 35 people (Approved)
 Group C;

-     Expand the CAD module and incorporate BIM in universities
-    Teach part by part of BIM model training program across discipline, not limited to engineering and architecture.
-     Start at the academic level.
-     We need to provide a roadmap for the future.
-     Insert BIM Module in the ICT Training program done by CIDB to the industry.
-     Need to identify one certification body that can determine the BIM compliance in organization – such as the level of BIM score.
-     Re-training of existing CAD Managers, Draughtsmen to be BIM Managers.
-     There has to be some incentives to develop local FM vendors using ICT/BIM.

 Group D;

-Create the culture and awareness program to all discipline involve in the asset ; start point awareness to the top management
¢-Training

Group E;

  • Use personal expert in BIM to sharing knowledge and training
  • Incentive / Accreditation
  • Grant for training
  • Incubation centre (focusing on developing certain program / System) eg:  CWorks comes from MTDC’s incubation centre
